FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Jellyfish Protein Shows Potential as an Age-Fighting Dietary
Supplement
New York, New York (February 9, 2007)
Quincy Bioscience (Madison, WI) announces that Prevagen Professional (www.prevagenpro.com),
a dietary supplement consisting of the jellyfish protein aequorin, has
displayed potent age-fighting activity in their laboratory studies.
Quincy Bioscience has been researching the jellyfish protein for the past
eleven years and will be releasing their first professional strength product
derived from that technology as the branded dietary supplement Prevagen
Professional. Specifically, the age-fighting potential displayed by Prevagen
Professional is an ability to keep more brain cells alive in scientific tests
when compared against controls. Laboratory tests show a 50% reduction in
cellular death in the rodent models studied. Quincy Bioscience is exhibiting
their product and sharing this breakthrough for the first time at the 2007
CAMEXPO East Conference held in New York, New York.
Quincy Bioscience conducts research in partnership with the
University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee to develop age-fighting technologies
primarily focusing on management of the age related disruption in calcium
regulation. This disruption can lead to premature cell death in the brain and
in other tissues and systems in the aging human body. Prevagen Professional is
a novel product that in technical terms is a calcium-binding protein.
Calcium-binding proteins deplete in several areas of the body as part of the
aging process. Prevagen Professional taken as a supplement replaces those
proteins lost through aging.
"We are very excited to be bringing this technology out through
healthcare practitioners," commented Mark Underwood, the inventor of the
aequorin technology and a founder and President of Quincy Bioscience. "Many
people are searching for a potent anti-aging supplement that has some really
strong science. There isn't anything to fight aging like our product."
A certain species of jellyfish contains the protein aequorin
which has the unique property of binding calcium ions in their nervous system.
Humans also need this type of protein in their nervous system to properly
protect their cells too. One of the detriments of the aging process is that
humans lose a significant amount of their own cell-protecting proteins.
Aequorin is a very similar type of protein and is completely non-toxic, the
reason for its successful development into the supplement product.
"Having strong science is the key to helping people that are
interested in natural and alternative health products." added Mike Beaman, Mr.
Underwood's business partner. "It is exciting that we can touch the health of
so many others immediately through Prevagen Professional. There are many
people that are choosing alternative medicine products that are safer because
of their all-natural design and our discovery fits well within that mindset. It
simply makes sense."
Quincy Bioscience is a biotechnology company based in Madison,
Wisconsin. Quincy Bioscience is focused on the discovery, development and
commercialization of novel compounds to fight the aging process. The company's
products focus on restoring calcium balance related to neurodegenerative
disorders and other destructive age-related mechanisms. Quincy Bioscience is
set apart by its cutting-edge health applications of the jellyfish protein
aequorin for dietary supplement and pharmaceutical products.
Quincy Bioscience will be exhibiting during the CAMEXPO East
Friday, February 9th and 10th at the New York Marriott Marquis (1535 Broadway,
New York, NY 10036). Representatives will be on hand in booth # 512 with
literature. For more information visit www.prevagenpro.com.
